Ultrasound scans use sound waves to build a picture of the baby in the womb. The scans are painless, have no known side effects on mothers or babies, and can be carried out at any stage of pregnancy. A baby scan is an ultrasound scan that creates a 2D black-and-white image.
A 4D baby scan is an advanced scan that is similar to a 3D scan in that it shows moving 3D images of your baby. A 4D scan lets us look at life-size images so that we can see what the baby looks like. It allows us to look at the shape of the baby as well as his/her features.
On an 8-week baby scan, the heartbeat is also now detectable on a scan. Your baby is now making spontaneous movements. The limb buds are growing rapidly and now resemble arms and legs.
